I'll Never Understand...

little girls' fascination with the combination of scissors and hair. While I was in the shower today Sara got the kitchen shears.

She did not cut paper.

She did not cut her books.

Of course, she cut her ponytails.

She cut off about 3 inches. Thank goodness Aunt Jamie was working late tonight and could squeeze in an emergency cut.

The result is darling! I do love her with short hair. She was very disappointed that we did not get to see Kung Fu Panda tonight as originally planned.

Hopefully she learned her lesson.

My Olympic Swimmer

Bath time usually occurs after dinner at our house. Most nights the kids get in the tub at the same time. However, on this night Sara was still eating. Blake loved the freedom of having the entire tub to himself.

"I luf my new bed!"

Geannie is getting rid of Alex's bunk beds and Sara was very excited to move them into her room. We put in the top bunk last weekend and we will get the bottom bunk in a few months. Sara was so excited for her "new bed." Sara and Blake broke it in immediately by jumping on it.

Blake was so pleased with himself as he helped Bryan with the assembly.

We love how much more open it is now that the bulky queen log bed is out of there. There was even room to move in the kitchen, which was nice for me since all of the food and dishes ended up in her room on the table.

Baby Sister

We have several friends with new babies. Todd & Michelle's "Baby JJ" came on August 3, and Holly & Dan's "Baby See-nana" (Sienna) was born yesterday. Sara has decided that she wants a baby sister at our house. As we were leaving the hospital tonight after visiting The Dixons, Sara came up with a brilliant plan.

Sara: Can we have a baby sister come to our house after we are all done with Blake?
Bryan: What will we do with Blake when we are all done with him? Give him away?
Sara: Yes.
Bryan: Who should we give him to?
Me: Should we give him to the garbage man?
Sara: No...we can just leave him in that car. (pointing to a car in the parking lot)
Bryan: But what will happen to Blake? We can't just leave him in the car.
Sara: If we leave him, they will just take care of him.

Poor Blake! And Poor Sara for that matter. She is going to have to wait for a while before we have a baby at our house. However, it is so much fun to watch her love these newborn babies.

Words, Words, Words

Blake has been repeating everything lately. He is really trying to speak and has quite a few words in his vocabulary.

Dada, Daddy, Mama, Sara, Papa, Kiki, poopy, cookie, cracker, graham cracker, apple, puppy, horsie, blankie, please, more, drink, Austin, Andie
(added Sept. 8) up, gama, gapa, op(en), thank you, out (side)

These are all words that he has said multiple times without being coached. He has said several others, but only repeating what someone said.

I'm Gonna Catch a Whopper!

For Lindon Days they have a Huck Finn Fishing event where they dam up the creek and fill it with fish. This year we decided that Sara was finally old enough to enjoy it. "I'm goin' fishin'," was all she talked about all day long. She took her fishing pole and we walked down to the park. Daddy got her hook ready and placed it in the water for her. Sara looked up at me and said, "I'm gonna catch a whopper!" She held her pole for about 2 minutes and then wanted to go slide. I went to the playground with her and Bryan stayed and fished with Blake. Blake was completely fascinated with the fishing poles. We didn't end up taking any home, but we had a fun time.

Cascade Springs

On July 25 we went on an outing to Cascade Springs. It ended up being a larger group than I expected and was a ton of fun. Grandma was watching Lexie and Kennadi while Ang and Jason were in Hawaii. Jen & Jason brought their brood: Kelsie, Rachel, Brinlee, Austin, Katelyn, and Kyle. Christine was in town with Leslie, Shane, Conner, and Trent. Summer came too with Caleb and Cassie. Yes, that's right there were 6 adults and 16 kids. Quite the little group!

We "hiked" all around the springs, saw fish, tromped on bridges, looked at the butterflies, and thoroughly enjoyed the drinking fountains. I pointed out the spot where Bryan first told me he loved me and later in our courtship proposed. Then we went down the canyon to find a picnic spot. We found a spot along the river that the kids loved. Grandma had packed lunch for everyone. We had lunchmeat sandwiches, grapes, chips and drinks. The kids had a blast. Blake's favorite part was throwing rocks in the river. I need to get a pic from Jen that I can post. He was filthy and even tried to eat the rocks. I can't tell you how many rocks I took out of his mouth. He is definitely a boy. We had so much fun.
